The stories of Genesis are well known from childhood. Even those who consider themselves unchurched are probably familiar with several of the famous stories penned from this ancient book. But what are these stories really about? What is the main message that God has for us?
Most of the time, the book of Genesis has been looked at as either primarily a declaration of how old the earth is or a description of moral heroes that God used because of their outstanding behavior. But is this what we actually see in Genesis? No! What we discover from the very beginning of the story is that Genesis is not a collection of stories about “great people” who did “great things” for God. If we come away with that message then we have missed the main message of the entire Bible.
The main message of the entire Bible is the story of the Great God of all Grace who takes nothing and makes something. What we learn in Genesis is that God gives His best when we are at our worst. God meets great sin with even greater grace. He alone is the ONE who takes death and sin, and speaks life into existence. He alone is the ONE who is able to speaklight into the darkness. You see, Genesis makes the overwhelming case that God alone is good (Genesis 1:31) and He alone is the giver of Light, Life, and Love to the world. (John 1:1) Join us on an unforgettable journey as we see how God stepped down into unlikely, undeserving lives to reveal His Soul-Saving, Life-Transforming Grace. Genesis is the first witness to the only Eternal God who is FULL of Grace as it truly is.
Genesis 1:1 — IN the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
John 1:1,14 — IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
