Sunday morning, July 19, sermon preached by Pastor Brian McLaughlin.
Thank you for joining us today at Fairview Baptist Church! If you are a guest, thank you so much for being here with us. Today, throughout our service, it is my prayer that you will see just how amazing the grace of God truly is and just how free the gift of His righteousness is to those who believe in Him by simple faith. (Romans 3:24) Jesus has changed our lives completely and it is the worship of Him that thrills our hearts. Our desire today is to point our focus to His finished work upon the cross and His throne of grace.
Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea.
The Great High Priest whose Name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands,
My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in Heaven He Sits
No tongue can bid me thence depart.
Today, we draw our attention to the book of James and look at a sin that is pervasive in our society and our individual lives. James made the statement that “If any doesn’t offend with his words then he is a perfect man and has been able to tame the whole body.” The stark reality is that there is not a person in this room that has not at some point in their lives made an offense with their tongue. It seems to be the only untamed beast still in the world. The reason for this is simple, the tongue tells on our wild, untamed heart. The tongue reveals so much about our old Adamic nature and truly shows us our hopeless estate without the transforming power of the gospel of God’s grace.
